President Brigham Young, while traveling to the Salt Lake Valley and suffering from mountain fever, reached the summit of Big Mountain. He requested that Elder Wilford Woodruff turn his carriage so he could view the Salt Lake Valley. Upon doing so, the spirit of light rested upon him and hovered over the valley, giving him the assurance that it was the place where the Saints would find protection and safety.
In Their Own Words
“The same day President Young crossed the Big Mountain. When on its summit he directed Elder Wilford Woodruff, in whose carriage he was lying sick, to turn it around so that he could have a view from that point of a portion of Salt Lake Valley. The spirit of light rested upon him and hovered over the valley, and he felt that there was the place the Saints would find protection and safety.— Millennial Star 35:41”
