An Elder laboring in a community where profanity was common felt a physical, chilling shock like electricity when he first heard the Lord's name taken in vain, an experience that illustrates the spirit's sensitivity to evil.
In Their Own Words
“I recently heard an Elder remark, referring to the time when he went to labor in a community where profanity was common, that when he first heard the name of the Lord taken in vain it sent a cold chilling shudder through his system, as tangible to his spirit as a shock of electricity would be to the body. He felt sad and sick at heart, and having to remain there from day to day and month after month, he heard profanity so often that the shock to his spirit grew less until he became alarmed at his own indifference, and wondered if his reverence for the name of Deity was only acquired rather than heartfelt and a part of his being. — The Young Woman's Journal 13:1”
