Amelia witnessed her friend Agnes, who was dying, in a visionary or highly spiritual state. Agnes had been sobbing and praying during the night, and Amelia heard her say 'Amen' with a sense of joy. The next morning, Agnes appeared to have passed away, and Amelia confirmed she was at peace.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

She was sitting up in her bed. Her head was bowed on her crossed hands and her whole body was shaken by her sobs. Then she began to pray. Great Father, Thou alone canst comprehend the pathos of a death-bed prayer! Thou alone canst hallow this hour that comes to one and all, and Thine only is the power the touch of which can give that joy which was on the face of Agnes as she said, “Amen.” I crept back to my couch. In my heart was that which said, “Fear not for her. All is well.” The morning light came, and with it the news that Agnes had passed away. I went into the room. The face was white and still, but the smile of peace was there, the same smile that had rested upon her lips when she said, “Amen.”
