In the spring of 1844, a missionary visited the village of Hunterfield, Scotland. He preached on the green and visited homes. Bishop Nibley's mother, who was seeking the kingdom and unsatisfied with previous churches, attended and immediately recognized the doctrine of faith, repentance, baptism, and the gift of the Holy Ghost as true, asking to be baptized. She and her husband were baptized, and the family eventually moved to the Rocky Mountain valleys.

In Their Own Words

“So when they heard this "Mormon" Elder, my mother went up to him after his discourse and said: "I believe the doctrine that you have preached to-day to be of the Lord Jesus Christ—faith, repentance, baptism, the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost, and that the power of the Holy Ghost and the administration of the Spirit should follow. I believe in it. I want to be baptised."— Millennial Star 87:22”
