While serving as a young missionary in Ha'apai, Tonga, John H. Groberg and his companion were involved in a situation where a young granddaughter was critically ill. The missionaries and the local Saints engaged in a heartfelt, unified prayer, expressing gratitude to God for the Savior and for the blessings of life, which resulted in the young girl's recovery.

In Their Own Words

“The first example comes from when I was a young missionary serving in Ha’apai, Tonga. We were staying in a small house, and a woman came to us and said, “My granddaughter is very sick. She is dying. Please come and help.” We went to her home, and there was this little girl, just a small child, lying on a mat. She was very, very ill. She was moaning, and she was burning up with fever. We didn’t know what to do. We were just young missionaries. We didn’t have any medical training. We didn’t have any medicine. We didn’t have any way to get her to a hospital. We just knelt down by her side and prayed. We prayed for her. We prayed for her grandmother. We prayed for the Lord to bless her. We prayed for the power of the priesthood to be with us. We prayed for the Lord to heal her. As we were eating, her granddaughter’s moaning ceased and before long her fever broke. She soon opened her eyes and started searching for her grandmother and said she wanted to get up and have some breakfast also. We had a heartfelt prayer together where we thanked God for all His blessings, including the recovery of this young granddaughter, and for our Savior Jesus Christ and all He has done and continues to do for us.”
