At the dedication of the St. George Temple in 1877, George Q. Cannon recorded feeling a 'heavenly influence' and the presence of unseen beings. He and other leaders spoke of the 'ministering of angels' that attended the services, confirming that the Lord had accepted the house. Cannon noted that the spiritual power emanating from the building would bridge the gap between the living and the dead, a prophecy he saw as being fulfilled through the temple work that followed.
