Homer Call — Divine Guidance During a Winter Storm

While traveling through the mountains of Northern Utah during a fierce winter blizzard, Homer Call became disoriented as the trail was buried under deep snow and visibility was reduced to near zero. Facing the prospect of perishing from exposure, Call stopped to pray for divine assistance. Immediately following his prayer, he felt a powerful and distinct spiritual impression—described in family records as a 'still small voice'—directing him to turn in a specific direction that contradicted his own sense of orientation. He followed this prompting and shortly thereafter discovered a fence line that led him to a safe shelter. Call frequently shared this experience throughout his life as a testimony of the reality of the Holy Ghost's guidance in times of physical peril. This account is preserved in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers manuscript collection and family histories.
