Wilford Woodruff — Visitation of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence

In August 1877, while serving as the president of the St. George Temple, Wilford Woodruff was visited by the spirits of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and other eminent men, including George Washington and Christopher Columbus. They appeared to him for two days and nights, asking why their temple work had not been performed, stating they had remained true to God and the liberty of the land. Woodruff immediately performed their baptisms and ordinations, citing this as proof that the dead are conscious and waiting for their work.
