Martin William Foy Sr. — Divine Protection During the Black Hawk War

During the mid-1860s, while the settlement of Panguitch was under threat during the Black Hawk War, Martin William Foy Sr. served as a guard to protect the community. On one specific occasion while on duty, he received a distinct spiritual impression or prompting from the Holy Ghost to move from his current position. Heeding the warning immediately, he relocated just moments before an attempted ambush or attack by hostile forces who had targeted his original post. This preservation of his life was attributed to divine intervention and his sensitivity to spiritual guidance, a common theme in the survival accounts of the Panguitch pioneers during the 1866 evacuation.
