Susanna Porritt Barnes — Deliverance from Storm on the Ship Chimborazo

In 1855, while emigrating from Liverpool, England, to America, Susanna Porritt was a passenger on the ship Chimborazo. During the voyage, the vessel encountered a violent and terrifying storm that threatened to destroy the ship. The company of Latter-day Saint converts on board gathered together in a unified circle of prayer, exercising their faith for divine protection. According to the account, the storm miraculously abated, and the ship was preserved, allowing the Saints to reach Philadelphia safely. Susanna viewed this as a direct instance of divine intervention and protection for those gathering to Zion.
