John M. Macfarlane — Preservation from Federal Marshals

During the anti-polygamy raids of the late 1880s, Macfarlane, who had three wives, was a target for federal marshals. On a specific occasion in St. George, he received a powerful spiritual warning that the marshals were approaching his residence to arrest him. Acting immediately on this prompting, he was able to hide and eventually flee the city just as the officers arrived. This divine warning allowed him to make preparations to move his family to the safety of the LDS colonies in Mexico (Colonia Juarez), thereby avoiding imprisonment. His biography records this as a direct act of divine protection and deliverance during a period of intense persecution.
