Isaac C. Haight — Preservation from Fatal Pneumonia

In his early twenties, Isaac C. Haight contracted a severe case of pneumonia that was expected to be fatal. The illness was so debilitating that it permanently damaged his lungs, forcing him to abandon his career as a farmer in Windham, New York. Haight and his family viewed his survival as a miraculous preservation of his life. This 'remarkable providence' redirected his path toward education and teaching, which he later recognized as essential preparation for his future leadership roles as a pioneer and Stake President in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
