During the Salt Lake Temple dedication services in April 1893, Apostle Francis M. Lyman heard sacred music and declared that he saw "a beautiful light cross the building above the chandeliers" of the upper assembly room. The light moved across the room in a way the witnesses understood as heavenly, accompanying the spiritual outpouring of the dedicatory sessions. Lyman's experience was one of several personal manifestations recorded by individual Saints during the two weeks of dedication services, confirming to those present that the dedication was attended by heavenly powers and that the Lord accepted the house His people had built.
