Dr. Elvira Stevens Barney: A Latter-day Saint Pioneer Woman and Physician (1832–1909)

Elvira Stevens Barney (1832–1909) was a Latter-day Saint pioneer and one of the early women physicians among the Saints. A twin, she joined the Church in her youth and gathered with the Saints to the West. Her life was memorialized in 'The Stevens Genealogy' and a 'Biographical Sketch of Dr. Elvira Stevens Barney,' and she is among the women documented in the Church Historian's Press Emmeline B. Wells project. Sister Barney's life is a faith-promoting witness of the Latter-day Saint women who, in the early days of the Restoration, combined faithful discipleship with learning and the healing arts for the good of the Saints.
