Angeline Works — Dying and Delirious — Immediately Healed by Joseph Smith and David Whitmer

On December 10, 1835, in Kirtland, Ohio, Joseph Smith was called with President David Whitmer to visit a woman named Angeline Works who was gravely ill. Joseph recorded in his journal that same day:

'This afternoon I was called, in company with President David Whitmer, to visit Angeline Works. We found her very sick, and so much deranged that she could not recognize her friends and family.'

Despite the severity of her condition, Joseph Smith and David Whitmer laid their hands on her and administered to her by the power of the priesthood. The healing was immediate — she was restored to her senses and her health.

Angeline Works (born August 22, 1814) had recently been baptized into the Church and was staying at Elder Booth's home in Kirtland when she fell ill. The account is preserved in Joseph Smith's 1835–1836 journal and in the Joseph Smith Papers, with her identity and dates confirmed by Church historical records.

The event stands as a direct fulfillment of the promise in James 5:14–15: 'Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the Church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick.'
