Miraculous Healing of Joseph Coe's Wife Through Joseph Smith

Joseph Coe, a member of the Church in Kirtland, was required to raise four hundred dollars to save a farm owned by Frederick G. Williams from reverting to its former owner. Joseph Coe said he could not raise the amount. However, Joseph Smith approached him and told him that if he would go to such and such a place and dig, he would find something that would give him the means. Joseph Coe went to the place indicated and found something (the account does not specify what was found, but it was sufficient). Before this, Joseph Coe's wife had been sick for a long time and was despaired of by the doctor. After Joseph Coe obtained the means through Joseph Smith's direction, Joseph Smith came and laid his hands upon her and healed her. Her recovery was immediate and remarkable. This double miracle—the finding of means and the miraculous healing—showed to Joseph Coe the reality of God's care for His people.
