Solomon Chamberlain contended with William Lake, a prominent Free Will Baptist preacher, concerning the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. Lake spurned at Chamberlain and the Book, saying if it was of God, He would not send such a young upstart. But Lake 'soon after died a poor drunken sot,' fulfilling the divine justice against those who rejected the restored gospel.
