Levi Jackman Is Healed of Malaria by Joseph Smith at Nauvoo

Levi Jackman (1797–1876), a faithful member of the Church and later pioneer, contracted malaria when the Saints first arrived at Commerce, Illinois (soon renamed Nauvoo) in the late 1830s. Malaria was rife among the early inhabitants of the swampy Mississippi River valley, and many Saints fell ill during this difficult period.

Jackman was healed of this illness through the administration of Joseph Smith, using the power of the priesthood. This healing was one of many recorded during the Nauvoo period, when the Prophet and the Twelve exercised the gift of healing among the Saints.

Jackman's healing testimony is preserved in the broader record of Nauvoo miracles and is referenced in historical accounts of the Prophet's healing ministry. It exemplifies the spiritual gifts that were active in the early Church and Jackman's own faith in the priesthood power.

Jackman went on to serve faithfully in the Church, was among the original 1847 pioneer company that crossed the plains to Utah, and lived to age 79, providing additional testimony of God's protection and healing power in his life.
