Raising William Huntington from the Dead

Levi Curtis of Springville, Utah recorded an account he heard from William D. Huntington. Curtis relates that “about the month of August, 1856,” he and Huntington were in Hobble Creek Canyon cutting a log for drums; after finishing their labor they rode the log home and talked about Church experiences and the life and labors of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Huntington told Curtis that while in Nauvoo he lived in the family of and worked for Joseph Smith (including Emma Smith). During that time the Prophet had “such a wonderful time with the sick,” when nearly everybody was stricken down; Huntington said he himself had been sick for some weeks, became so helpless he could not move, and was among the afflicted who were healed by Joseph Smith. The account is preserved in Curtis’s published recollection of Joseph Smith’s miracles and later appears in compilations of Joseph Smith miracle accounts.
