Healing at Montrose and Commerce

On July 22, 1839, known as the 'Day of God's Power,' Joseph Smith arose from his own sickbed during a devastating malaria epidemic and went among the Saints at Commerce (later Nauvoo), Illinois, and across the river at Montrose, Iowa, healing many who were severely ill.

Wilford Woodruff recorded that Joseph healed virtually every person he visited that day. The Prophet then crossed the Mississippi to Montrose, where he continued healing the sick. The day's events were witnessed and recorded by multiple individuals and are considered among the most remarkable demonstrations of the healing power of the priesthood in Church history.
