Mason Ohio temple groundbreaking marks new era of faith for local members
The landscape of faith in the Midwest is set to change as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints prepares for the Mason Ohio temple groundbreaking. Scheduled for November 7, 2026, this milestone event marks the beginning of construction for the third temple in the state of Ohio. Located on a 35-acre site at the intersection of Mason-Montgomery Road and Cedar Village Drive, the single-story, 29,630-square-foot edifice will serve more than 20,000 members across the Greater Cincinnati and Dayton regions. For many, this announcement is the fulfillment of long-held hopes and a testament to the enduring power of Temple Miracles in the lives of the faithful.
For decades, members in this region have demonstrated profound devotion through the sacrifice of travel. Long drives to distant temples have been a hallmark of the Latter-day Saint experience in Ohio, requiring careful planning, financial resources, and significant time away from home. Yet, these journeys have often served as a crucible for spiritual growth. As noted in the TEACHINGS of the Church, the effort required to attend the temple is never viewed as a burden, but rather as a sacred investment in eternal family bonds. The proximity of this new house of the Lord will undoubtedly transform how families engage in regular worship, allowing for more frequent opportunities to seek the Holy Ghost / Guidance and Direction within those hallowed walls.
Reflecting on the impact of such proximity, President Michael Guy of the Ohio River Branch in the Cincinnati Ohio Stake shared his perspective on the sacrifices members have historically made. In a message to the Church News, he stated, I have been so amazed by the sacrifices members of our branch and stake have made to regularly attend the temple, and this will allow even greater levels of temple attendance. This new temple will allow us to attend more often. His words echo the sentiments of many who view the temple as a sanctuary from the world, a place where the Power of Prayer is amplified and personal revelation is refined.
History is replete with stories of how the presence of a temple strengthens a community. Elder Wisit Khanakham of the Seventy once reflected on his own journey, noting, The first Temple Worship experience for me and my wife was on May 6, 1981 when we were endowed and sealed in the Tokyo Temple. We did not understand much then but we have since counted temple worship as a blessing every day in our lives. When we look back on the previous 35 years, it proves to us that the many Blessings of Temple Worship have come true. This testimony highlights the long-term spiritual dividends that come from making the temple a central part of one's life, a reality that the people of United States are seeing unfold as new temples are announced across the country.
As the Mason Ohio temple groundbreaking approaches, members are encouraged to reflect on the Faithful Service & Sacrifice that has brought them to this moment. The temple is not merely a building of stone and mortar; it is a beacon of hope and a site of Sacred Places / Holy significance. Whether one is traveling across the state or living just minutes away, the invitation remains the same: to come unto Christ and find rest. As we look forward to the completion of this project, we are reminded that every sacrifice made to enter the house of the Lord is worth the eternal blessings promised to those who keep their covenants. This new temple will stand as a monument to the faith of the Saints in Ohio and a testament to the Lord's love for His children.
