Young Powell's Deliverance from a Panther

Young Powell of Tucker, Utah, was attacked by a panther while riding a mule to herd sheep. The panther leaped on him, tearing his clothes and scratching him. He attempted to stab it with a pocketknife, but the blade was driven into his own leg. The panther prepared to strike again, but the mule, sensing the danger, whirled and kicked the beast with both feet, effectively ending the attack.

Young Powell, of Tucker, Utah, while herding sheep, was attacked by a mountain lion. The animal sprang upon him, tearing his clothes and scratching him severely. He attempted to use his pocket-knife, but in his excitement he drove the blade into his own leg. The lion was preparing for another spring, when the mule upon which the young man was riding, sensing the danger, whirled and kicked the beast with both feet, effectively ending the attack.
