While visiting a relative in Glasgow during a missionary tour, President William Budge was persuaded to accept an old volume of the Psalms of David. Upon discovering that the fly leaf was glued down, he cut it away and found written information regarding long-departed members of the Budge family, which he had previously been unable to locate at the official registry.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 42, No. 27 (5 July 1880), p. 427):

While visiting a relative in Glasgow, during a missionary tour, President William Budge was persuaded to accept an old volume of the Psalms of David. In subsequently turning over the leaves of the aged book, he observed that the fly leaf adhered to the inside of the board, being pasted down at the edges, and that there was some writing inside which showed through. Curious to know the character of the writing, he cut away the leaf, and was happily surprised to find it gave him information concerning long departed members of the Budge family that he had been, to his former disappointment, unsuccessful in obtaining at the general repository of genealogical records.
