An unnamed woman belonging to a religious sect visited a neighbor who was a Latter-day Saint. The Latter-day Saint advised her to ask the Lord for wisdom and knowledge to determine if their Church was the true one. She followed this advice, and in a night vision, an angel of the Lord dressed in white robes appeared to her, declared the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be the true Church, and commanded her and her family to be baptized for the remission of their sins. The angel also explicitly told her that none of the other religious sects were right. The woman subsequently sought out the Saints, and she and her husband expressed an intent to join the Church.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 29, No. 11, 16 March 1867, p. 173):
A woman in the neighbourhood, who belonged to a religious sect, came to see me, and I told her to ask the Lord for wisdom and knowledge to know which was the true Church. She did so, and in a vision of the night, an angel of the Lord, dressed in white robes, appeared to her, and told her that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was the true Church, and that she and her family must be baptized for the remission of their sins, and that none of the other sects were right. She came to me, and she and her husband are now ready to be baptized.
In Their Own Words
“Elder John Parry, President of the Welsh District, in a letter addressed to President F. D. Richards, dated Feb. 21st, writes as follows:—...counselled the brethren to visit their neighbors ; one old brother, by so doing, told a lady that belonged to some of the sects, that if she would ask the Lord for wisdom and knowledge, that he would reveal unto her whether we were the right Church or not. She did so; and in a night vision an angel of the Lord appeared to her, dressed in white robes, and told her that this was the Church of Jesus Christ, and commanded her and her family to be baptized for the remission of their sins. She asked him were any of the other sects right? No, not one of them, said he, and the vision was closed. She came four miles to meeting, when I was there at Christmas, and her husband with her, She told some of the Saints that she and her family would come into the Church. — Millennial Star 29:11”
