After an open-air meeting on Wakefield Road, Elders were confronted by a clergyman of the Church of England who came to scoff and ask accusatory questions. However, the minister ended up inviting the Elders home for tea after the meeting.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 60, No. 33 (18 August 1898), p. 524):

At an open-air meeting on Wakefield Road, a clergyman of the Church of England came to scoff and ask accusatory questions, but after the meeting he invited the Elders home to tea.

In Their Own Words

“At the close of an open air meeting on Wakefield Road, the Elders were assailed by questions and accusations against the Saints. Among those taking part was a clergyman of the Church of England; but as Goldsmith wrote: '... And, fools who came to scoff, remained to pray.' For, at the close of the meeting, the minister invited the Elders home to tea. — Millennial Star 60:33”
