Stephen Davis Chipman and Alonzo S. Stewart's deliverance from a mob in Mooralbark

“We have been laboring in the district of Mooralbark for some time, and have met with considerable opposition. On Sunday, the 21st of July, we held a meeting in the open air, and were interrupted by a mob, consisting of a local father's daughter, a neighbor's son, and several others, who used very abusive language. The father of the girl, however, interfered and stopped the proceedings of the mob for a time. We were impressed that it was not safe for us to remain there, and we accordingly left. We were followed by the mob, and had to take to the bush. It was a very dark night, and we had to make our way through a dense forest, falling over logs and sticks, and if we had injured ourselves I don’t suppose we would have found it out till next day. However, by the blessings of the Lord, we eluded them, and in answer to our prayers were led to a refuge about two miles distant, where we arrived in safety, feeling to thank the Lord for His protecting care over us.”
