After spending time in Kirtland and observing the Latter-day Saints closely during the winter, Gilbert Belnap became convinced that these people 'lived their religion better and enjoyed more of the spirit of God than any other people that I had ever been acquainted with.' Through diligent investigation over nearly two years, he satisfied himself of the truthfulness of Mormonism, demonstrating that sincere observation and spiritual seeking lead to testimony and faith.
