In 1873, while praying at the Temple walls in Jerusalem, Sir Moses Montefiore embraced the Chacham-Bashi Alchonon and prophesied that the Rabbi would live to see the Deliverer of Judah, whereas Sir Moses would 'look down' from the veil, instructing the Rabbi to remain in Jerusalem until the Deliverer arrived.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 51, No. 45, 11 November 1889, p. 715):
Sir Moses Montefiore, when in Jerusalem in 1873, embraced the Chacham-Bashi Alchonon, and said to him, 'You will live to see the Deliverer of Judah, but I shall look down from the veil; remain here until he comes.'
In Their Own Words
“One Friday at sunset, says my informant, Sir Moses and our Chacham-Bashi Alchonon and I drove over to pray at the ruins of the Temple. Sir Moses was weeping all the time, pressing his face against the stones, and after the devotion was over and we entered the carriage to drive home, Sir Moses, embracing the Chacham, said: 'You will live to see the Mighty Deliverer of Judah, while it is my lot to look down upon you from the veil; I shall leave Jerusalem on Monday, you remain here until He cometh.'— Millennial Star 51:45”
