Great excitement occurred among the Jews in Bombay caused by the arrival of a stranger from Jerusalem claiming to have a divine 'Voice' revealing that the Messiah is coming, with the stranger citing both Old and New Testaments.

Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 28, No. 50, 15 December 1866, p. 798):

Great excitement has been caused among the Jews in Bombay, by the arrival of a stranger from Jerusalem, who claims to have a divine 'Voice' revealing that the Messiah is coming, and he cites both the Old and New Testaments in support of his mission.

In Their Own Words

“The Indian Portugueza, in Goa, states that great excitement has been caused among the Jews in Bombay, by the arrival of a stranger from Jerusalem, under the influence of a ‘Voice,’ which, he asserts, has been spread over the world without any visible means or whose ‘Voice’ is said to use power. ‘I read,’ says the Pontiff, ‘the Old and New Testaments, the one with the other, but the light had been hidden in the recesses of his mind, and he is thus persuaded, and he says he is the messenger of the Messiah, who is soon to come.’ — Millennial Star 28:50”
