During a recent great tidal wave in the South Seas, the mission home was destroyed. Fortunately, the missionaries and Saints had been removed to other islands, and the two who remained in the area narrowly escaped with their lives.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 65, No. 10, 5 March 1903):
A great tidal wave has recently visited the South Sea Islands, and the mission home was destroyed. Fortunately, the missionaries and Saints had been removed to other islands, and the two who remained in the area narrowly escaped with their lives.
In Their Own Words
“The news of the great tidal wave in the South Sea, occasioned by an earthquake, reached us. The mission home was swept away, but the brethren had been removed to other islands and the remaining two narrowly escaped with their lives. The news of their deliverence brought great relief to us all. — Millennial Star 65:10”
