During a rough sea voyage on the ship Furnessia from Germany to New York, passengers expressed a belief that there was no danger of the ship sinking because Latter-day Saint missionaries were on board. The weather was so rough that the ship had to be shut up for three or four days, but all arrived safely.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

Elder Peter Loutensock, writing from New York, February 14, 1899, says: 'We had a very rough voyage. For three or four days the ship was shut up, and the waves washed over the deck, but we all arrived safely. During the rough weather it was by different persons expressed, that there was no danger of the ship going down when Mormon Elders were on board, and it seemed every body took comfort in the belief.'

In Their Own Words

“During the rough weather it was by different persons expressed, that there was no danger of the ship going down when Mormon Elders were on board, and it seemed every body took comfort in the belief.— Millennial Star 61:10”
