When Elder David Pettegrew and Elder Jesse W. Crosby arrived at the St. John's River in New Brunswick, they found that the Lord had already gone before them, as some residents had seen visions of their coming from the 'far west country,' and therefore knew the missionaries and even the clothing they wore, and were ready to receive their message.
Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):
In the spring of 1844, I was appointed to go on a mission to the British Provinces, in company with Elder David Pettegrew. We traveled together through the state of New York, and into New Brunswick. We found the people in many places very anxious to hear the word of the Lord. In some places, the Lord had gone before us, and shown some in visions that we were coming from the far west country, so that they knew us and the clothing we had on, and were ready to receive the word.
In Their Own Words
“But the Lord had gone before us and shown some in visions that we were coming from the far west country, so that they knew us and the clothing we had on, and were ready to receive the word. — Times and Seasons 5:24”
