Nathan Pratt, the five-and-a-half-year-old son of Parley P. Pratt, who died in Nauvoo, had experiences throughout his short life of being healed through the laying on of hands and prayer when sick, and he had visions where he discerned good and evil spirits.

In Their Own Words

“Nathan Pratt, son of Parley P. Pratt, aged five years and six months. This child was born in the state of Missouri, in the midst of the persecutions of the saints. He was a child of peculiar promise, and of a very delicate constitution. He has often solicited the laying on of hands and prayer, when sick, and by this means been healed. He has had discernment of both good and evil spirits, which sometimes visited him; on one occasion kind personages visited him, and he described their appearance, their clothing, and their countenances, which were glorious, and they spoke to him words of comfort and instruction. He was a child of great faith, and often spoke of the things of the kingdom of God, and of the coming of the Savior, with a wisdom far above his years. He was taken sick on the 25th of December, and continued to fail until the 15th of January, when he departed this life. During his sickness he was patient and resigned, and often expressed a desire to go to the Savior, and to be with those who had gone before him. He was a child of much prayer, and his death was a loss to his parents, but a gain to him, for he has gone to a better world, where he will be free from the sufferings and sorrows of this life.”
