While tracting on a cold, miserable day, Nancy Tenney and her companion were unexpectedly approached by a lady they had met the day before. The lady, after discussing them with others at a Congregational Intercession Service, requested that the two missionaries take the service for them a week later. The missionaries accepted and were able to teach the doctrines of the Church.

In Their Own Words

“It was a cold, rather miserable sort of day. We had been tracting and were walking on in silence, each occupied with her own thoughts—when, quite suddenly, or so it seemed to me in my reverie, a voice broke the quiet stillness of the lane, and 'ere I knew what was happening my companion had answered! and the voice was lost—but only to return, in a second, in a hustle, peculiar to that person—and I recognised a lady to whom we had been introduced the previous day. She was breathless, and explained that she had been running to catch us. She told us that she had been to a Congregational Intercession Service, and that during the course of the service she had mentioned us to the others present. They had been very interested, and had asked her many questions about us and our message. She had told them all she knew, but had been unable to answer all their questions, and so, she said, 'I told them that I would ask you if you would come and take the service for us a week on Wednesday.' Imagine our joy when this good lady concluded, '. . . so would you mind taking the service for us, a week on Wednesday?' We accepted, of course, and the following Wednesday found us in the Congregational Church at Eastwood. We were given the opportunity to speak for forty-five minutes, and we were able to explain the first principles of the Gospel, and to bear our testimonies to the truth of the restored message. We were treated with the utmost kindness and respect, and were invited to return at any time.”
