Mrs. M. A. Shorrock prayed earnestly to know if the missionaries were servants of God and if she were right in receiving them into her home. She felt impressed to read her Bible, and upon opening it, she read the words: 'Open ye the gates that the righteous nations which keepeth the truth may enter in.' She accepted this as a divine answer to her prayer.

In Their Own Words

“I thank God for the answer He gave to my prayer. I prayed earnestly to Him to make known to me if the elders were His servants and if I were doing right in receiving them into my home. I felt impressed to read my Bible, and on opening it I beheld these words: 'Open ye the gates that the righteous nations which keepeth the truth may enter in.' When I read that scripture I felt that it was an answer to my prayer. I have since been baptized, and I know that the Gospel as taught by the Latter-day Saints is the truth. I have received a testimony of the divinity of the work, and I am thankful to the Lord for the light and knowledge He has given me.”
