Mom’s Spiritual Intuition Saves Son

In 1993, when we joined the Franklin Ward in Herndon, VA, my wife and I were newly married. I lost my job, and we had to live in the house with my in-laws. We were newlyweds and jobless, living with Roger and Bonnie Lewis in the Franklin Ward.

Soon after we were married, I was introduced to a wonderful family called the Downs family. Sister Downs was a wonderful mother and raised amazing young men. Brother David Downs was on the High Council; they were a really inspirational family, always serving and always helping.

Brett Downs was a teenager, about 16 or 17 years old, and he told me an incredible story with his mom by his side. He said that he wanted to go out with some friends, but his mother said that she didn’t feel right about him going out. He really wanted to go, but she insisted that he not go, so he did not go. That night, his friends got in a car accident and all died.

Brett said that this was a great testimony builder for him to know how important it is to listen to his mother, who also has inspiration and personal revelation. He respected his mother, and I could tell. I was impressed when Brett said that he cherished his mother’s counsel even more than before because of this incident. I would love to hear the fuller account of this story someday in my life.
