A missionary serving in England, who struggled financially during his first mission ten years prior to the extent that his wife had to wash clothes to support him, found himself in prosperous circumstances during his second mission, having accumulated several thousands of dollars in the interim.

Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71, No. 31 (August 5, 1909), p. 490):

There is a missionary now laboring in England, who ten years ago filled a mission of two years duration and his wife must needs sweat at the washtub to help earn means to assist him in the work. He is now out for the second time, but not under the pinched financial condition that marked his first mission. He is this time worth several thousands of dollars—having 'worked with his hands' in the meantime—and he gives the credit to God.

In Their Own Words
