Jesus Christ, on His way from Nazareth to the south, entered the gate of the town of Nain and encountered a funeral procession carrying the only son of a widow. Having compassion on the grieving mother, Jesus called the young man back from the dead and restored him to her.

In Their Own Words

“This was the scene of one of our Savior’s merciful miracles. On His way from Nazareth south He took the route which led by this town. As He entered the gate a funeral procession was slowly proceeding to the cemetery. The coffin contained an only son of a widow. Jesus felt compassion for the bereaved mother. He called the young man back from the dead, and gave him to his mother. What joy came to that lonely heart! What awe must have stricken those who witnessed this miracle! — The Young Woman's Journal 12:2”
