At the pool of the public baths in Burnley, fifty people gathered for baptism. Among the nineteen individuals baptized was a local minister and his wife, both of whom resigned from their previous church to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Following this, a confirmation and sacrament service was held with ninety people in attendance, and an evening meeting drew about one hundred people, which the mission president characterized as the start of a bounteous harvest.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 64, No. 17, 24 April 1902, p. 267):
At the public baths, Burnley, on Sunday, April 13th, nineteen souls were initiated into the Church by baptism, by Elders William J. Facer and Amos H. Turner. Among the number was a local minister and his wife, who have resigned their position in the church to which they formerly belonged, to cast in their lot with the Saints. Confirmation and sacrament services were held in the afternoon, with ninety present, and in the evening a meeting was held, at which about one hundred were in attendance. President Franklin C. Moyle says this is the beginning of a bounteous harvest.
In Their Own Words
“Yesterday, Sunday, April 20th, at 9:30 a.m., about fifty persons assembled at the pool of the public baths, nineteen of whom were to be baptized, among the number a local minister and wife, he resigning his church to become identified with the Church of Christ. Elders Amos H. Turner and Franklin C. Moyle officiated. At 2:30 p.m. a Confirmation-Sacrament service was held, ninety people being present, and at 6:30 p.m. about one hundred assembled in our cosy hall where an enjoyable meeting was held. We feel encouraged and know that this is only the beginning of a bounteous harvest in this part of the Lord's vineyard. — Millennial Star 64:17”
