Martin William Foy Sr., a pioneer of Panguitch, Utah, was afflicted with a severe and life-threatening condition historically referred to as 'white swelling' (likely osteomyelitis or a deep-seated bone infection) in his leg. The condition caused extreme pain and debilitation, threatening his life and his ability to labor in the settlement. According to family records and local history, he sought a blessing through the administration of the Priesthood. Through the prayer of faith and this administration, he was miraculously healed, allowing him to recover his strength and continue his role in the colonization of Southern Utah. This account is preserved as a primary example of faith-promoting healing in the early Panguitch community.
