Lars Neilson, a resident of Denmark, initially scoffed at missionaries Elder Forsgren and Dorius who visited his island in 1851. Neilson attended their meeting with the intention of denouncing them, but upon hearing their clear presentation of Gospel principles, he was convinced. He became a firm friend of the missionaries and a defender of the faith. During a meeting at his home, a rowdy individual was silenced by Neilson, and a prophecy was pronounced upon Neilson that he would become a staunch member of the Church, which was fulfilled.
Fuller account of this event (as retold in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, 7 November 1895 (Vol. 57, No. 45)):
The Elders presented in a humble though clear manner the principles of the Gospel, proving all they said by the Scriptures. The further they proceeded the more convinced became Brother Neilsen that they were teaching doctrines he could not afford to ridicule, and when they finished their sermons he did not have a word of reproach to utter. . . On one occasion when Brother Neilsen had opened his house for the Elders to hold a meeting, a young, wealthy farmer began to act boisterously. Brother Neilsen forthwith told him that such conduct and words would not be permitted on his premises. The young fellow became quiet. The prediction was then made to Brother Neilsen that he would yet become a staunch member of the Church.
In Their Own Words
