On November 29, 1834, Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery united in prayer, seeking God's guidance for their future. As recorded in Joseph Smith's journal, they expressed deep gratitude to God for the recent arrival of $430 loaned by brethren from the east, which provided essential relief to their financial burdens. The following day, November 30, they recorded that it was put into their hearts that the Lord would, in due time, mercifully arrange His Providences to deliver them from the burden of debt and bondage. This spiritual assurance came as they sought the continuance of blessings and divine direction for their work.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

29th. This evening I united in prayer with brother Oliver, for the continuance of our blessings. We have this day been comforted by the intelligence of the arrival of four hundred and thirty dollars, which has been sent us by the brethren from the east, for which we feel to render our unfeigned thanks to our heavenly Father, for this timely relief, and for the many blessings which He is continually bestowing upon us. 30th. This morning we have been engaged in our usual business, and in the evening we united in prayer, and it was put into our hearts that in a due time the Lord would mercifully arrange His providences, and send us assistance to deliver us from debt and bondage.

In Their Own Words

“On the evening of the 29th of November, I united in prayer with brother Oliver, for the continuance of blessings. After having lately sent us by the goodness and mercy of God this evening, (November 30) it was put into our hearts, that in a time the Lord would arrange His Providences in a merciful manner, and send us assistance to deliver us from debt and bondage. — Millennial Star 15:13”
