James Richard Beus was among the Latter-day Saint pioneers who helped settle the communities of the Snake River Valley in Idaho, recorded among the early families of Menan, Idaho. Like many who were sent to establish new settlements, he left an established home to build up a new community of the Saints, there to rear a family in the gospel and to help make the desert places yield their fruit. His life is a faith-promoting witness of the Idaho pioneers who, sent forth from the older settlements, carried the covenant into the valleys of the Snake, and whose patient labor built up Zion in new places.
