In 1848, while reading the Book of Mormon, James Bullock felt enveloped in fire and heard a voice declaring the book and the Latter-day Saints to be of God. Later, in 1851, he prayed for direction and heard an audible voice directing him to move to Brighton, where he found the Saints.
In Their Own Words
“One day while reading it, a strange feeling came over me, and it seemed that I was enveloped in fire from my head to my feet, and a voice said to me: "This book was written by holy men inspired of God, and the Latter-day Saints are the people of God, and they have the Gospel of Jesus Christ." ... In the morning, while dressing, a voice spoke to me and said, "Go to Brighton." — Millennial Star 68:10”
