Jacob Hamblin — Premonition of Death and Spiritual Peace
Published August 31, 2026 at 4:18 AM
In August 1886, Jacob Hamblin was stricken with a final, fatal bout of malarial fever in Pleasanton, New Mexico. The account by Cora B. W. Sabin details that Hamblin had a clear premonition that his earthly mission was complete. Despite the humble and impoverished conditions of the cabin where he lay, witnesses and family members, including his wife Priscilla, noted a remarkable atmosphere of spiritual peace and divine presence. Hamblin expressed that he had finished the work he was sent to do, specifically referencing his role as a peacemaker. He passed away on August 31, 1886, in a state of calm assurance, fulfilling the earlier prophecy that he would never fall by the hand of an enemy but would finish his days in peace.
