When Heber J. Grant was a child, Eliza R. Snow, speaking in tongues with the interpretation provided by Zina D. Young, pronounced a blessing on his head. The blessing promised that he would grow to be a man and become one of the leaders in the Church. Heber J. Grant confirms the fulfillment of this prophecy in his life.

The blessing occurred in a Relief Society meeting while the young Heber J. Grant was playing on the floor with other children. According to historical records, the event took place at the home of the late William C. Staines.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

When I was a little child I was playing on the floor during a Relief Society meeting where Aunt Eliza R. Snow, Aunt Zina D. Young, Aunt Em Wells, Grandma Whitney and others were present. Sister Eliza R. Snow, so I subsequently learned, blessed each of those good sisters by the gift of tongues, and also blessed me, and Zina D. Young gave the interpretation. The interpretation so far as I was concerned was that I should live to be an Apostle of the Lord in the Church of Christ again established upon the earth. And I remember when I was a young man, that time and time again my mother would say to me: 'Heber, behave yourself, and some day you will be one of the Apostles.'

In Their Own Words

“When I was a child sister Eliza R. Snow by the gift of tongues, Sister Zina D. Young giving the interpretation, pronounced a blessing upon my head. She made a very remarkable promise. It was to the effect that I should grow to be a man and become one of the leaders in the Church of Jesus Christ. This blessing was promised in a meeting of the sisters and, if I remember correctly, I was the only child in attendance. Sister Snow gave a blessing through the gift of tongues to each of the sisters present and then gave me the one to which I have referred. I can testify to all the world of the inspiration of the Lord to Sisters Snow and Young in the blessing given to be, because of its complete fulfillment. — The Young Woman's Journal 16:3”
