A young boy living more than five hundred miles from the mission headquarters became very ill. His parents sent a telegram requesting prayers. Upon receiving the telegram at 6 p.m., Elder George M. Cannon Jr. offered an earnest prayer and requested other Saints to join in faith. Three days later, the child's father wrote that the boy was much better, attributing the recovery to the prayers.
In Their Own Words
“A couple of saints who are living more than five hundred miles from us, in an isolated part, sent a message that their little boy was very ill and requested us to pray for his recovery. I received the telegram about six o'clock in the evening, and immediately offered up an earnest prayer to our Heavenly Father that the little one might be healed. I also called on several of the saints and asked them to unite with us in the matter. When I reached the mission house all there united their faith in prayer that health and strength might be given to the little sufferer. Three days later I received a letter from the child's father, in which he said: 'To-day I sent you a wire, asking you to kindly pray for little Alvin, as he was very ill. No doubt you have received the same for our child is much better to-night. We thank our Heavenly Father for His mercies.'”
