A young mother, while alone at home with her baby, accidentally fell into a deep spring head-first while dipping water. With her clothes saturated and heavy, she could not climb out. As she felt her strength failing and prepared to die, she prayed one last, silent prayer to God. Upon opening her eyes after the prayer, she found herself lying flat on the plank spanning the spring, having been miraculously delivered.

In Their Own Words

“She rested a little and thought of her child, that must remain alone until its father came home at night if she did not return. Then she tried again, without success. Then she screamed and called hopes that someone might be passing in the road, which was a little way off. Soon she found her hands getting tired, and knew that she could hold on but a little longer, and when they should give out she must submit to the grim monster Death. She was a praying woman, and as the last act of this life she closed her eyes in prayer. That was to be her the last prayer before meeting the great Judge of all. At length she felt a little rested, and had prayed for all she felt most necessary at that critical time. She closed her prayer and opened her eyes. She found herself lying flat on her face on the plank. How she came there she knew not. Perhaps an angel lifted her so softly she knew it not. — The Young Woman's Journal 6:8”
