The six-year-old son of Brother and Sister George Cook was severely scalded by boiling water on his legs, arms, and hands. He suffered intensely until Brother George Watson and Brother John Purdy administered to him, after which every vestige of pain departed.
Fuller account of this event (the complete account as preserved in The Latter-day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 47, No. 9, 2 March 1885, p. 142):
A son of Brother and Sister George Cook, of New Brinsley, six years of age, was severely scalded by boiling water on his legs, arms, and hands. He suffered intensely until Brother George Watson and Brother John Purdy administered to him, after which every vestige of pain departed.
In Their Own Words
“A little six-year-old son of Brother and Sister George Cook, of New Brinsley, was severely injured by a kettle of boiling water being tipped over on him, very badly scalding the lower part of his body, both legs, arms and hands. The poor little fellow suffered indescribably with pain. At first fears were entertained that he could not recover. Brother George Watson, a Teacher, was called in and administered to the afflicted child and afterwards Brother John Purdy, a local Elder, was called, who anointed and administered to him, and every vestige of pain departed, not felt even when being dressed. — Millennial Star 47:9”
