On December 9, 1863, in Swansea, Elder Francis D. Hughes administered to the daughter of Evan Morgans, who was suffering from croup and had been given up as hopeless by doctors. Elder Hughes promised the child would recover and live long, and she was subsequently restored to health.

Fuller account of this event (in the witness’s own words):

On Wednesday, December 9th, being at Swansea, I was requested by brother Evan Morgans, to administer the ordinance of anointing with oil and the laying on of hands, to his daughter's child, who was afflicted with croup, and had been given up by the doctors as past all hopes of recovery. While administering I said that the child should recover and live long, and to the astonishment of many the child is now well.
